Herbivore and Food Fight! Give-Away

UPDATE:  The winner of the Food Fight! tote bag is Angela, who said… “I have been dreaming of visiting Portland for years, moreso every time I hear of awesome vegan places there (like Herbivore and Food Fight!) I think I might have to hit up the doughnuts first!”

And the winner of the necklace from Herbivore is Ariel, who said… “I want to experience the early autumn weather in Portland – feel the dry warmth just before the rain sets in. Cozying up to a soy latte in Red&Black Café (near the vegan strip mall) would be one of my favourite things to do.”

Before heading up to Portland for Vida Vegan Con, our friends Jason and Marion loaned us the show Portlandia, which we’d been dying to see.  Needless to say, we absolutely loved it, but we were pretty big Fred Armisen fans to begin with.  So during our trip Ryan decided to shoot his own “Ode to Portland(ia)”, which I’m excited to share with you guys.  He tried to feature a lot of the vegan and vegan-friendly businesses that we visited, but we unfortunately didn’t have time to hit them all.  All the more reason to go back!

In honor of our recent trip I thought it would be fun to do a give-away for you guys that features a couple amazing Portland-based companies – Herbivore and Food Fight!.  Food Fight! has offered one winner their choice of tote bag, so even if you can’t get to this vegan mecca in Portland, you can still carry a piece of it with you.  Another winner will get one of these awesome necklaces from Herbivore, which I have to say I’m pretty jealous of.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment telling me your favorite thing about Portland (if you’ve been there), or what you’d look forward to doing if you could visit (if you haven’t been there).  You can increase your chances of winning by following C’est La Vegan on twitter and liking the C’est La Vegan facebook page.  Just make sure to leave a SEPARATE comment for each entry.  The contest will close a week from today, Thursday, September 15th at 9:00pm PST.  Good luck!

  7. I entered earlier today but I don’t see my post up. I follow you on twitter and liked you on FB. I love Portland. I love hiking in the Gorge or watching the city from the bluffs. But the best thing about Portland is that being a Vegan doesn’t make you an alien like it does in some other places. It seems like there are Vegan options everywhere and people are respectful towards it. It is a very warm and progressive city.

  8. I want to go to Portland soooo bad! Never been but want to try all the awesome vegan food I’ve heard about and experience the city. Heard nothing but positive things about it.

  9. I was lucky enough to be in Portland in June this year, and a magical mecca it was indeed! My favourite thing about it, hands down, was Back To Eden bakery. I want to live there. In the shop.
I also loved Homegrown Smoker. When I get back to Portland again one day, my number one thing to do is get the Macnocheeto burrito, as I chose the special of the day over it and then didn’t get a chance to get back there!

  12. i would love to visit as I have never been to the west coast!

  15. I haven’t been to Portland yet, but after reading rave reviews from you and Emily at CupcakesandCashmere, my interest is definitely piqued. I would want to go for the weather and the food! (I am from the Southeast.)

    Happy weekend!

  16. My favorite thing about Portland is Powell’s!

  17. I’ll be in Portland for the first time in just a couple of weeks! So excited. I’m generally a low fat, whole foods kind of vegan, but the thing I am looking forward to most is the Macnocheeto burrito from Homegrown Smoker! It was a must-have even before I was tortured with so many pics of it from VVC posts. :)

  18. I love Portland! My dad and stepmom live there, so we visit a few times a year. I absolutely love Portabello! I also love Sweetpea Bakery. I’m still dying to try Back to Eden, Homegrown Smoker, and Native Bowl. I don’t Twitter, but I like you on FB!

  19. I would love to visit Portland. I have never been to the northwest (nor anywhere on the west coast) so there would be a huge list of “to-dos” and “to-visits”! I would particularly love to check out the landscape and natural landmarks nearby, but there would also be plenty of shopping and eating that I would need to do. I had the opportunity to see and buy some of Herbivore’s goodies at the Boston Vegetarian Festival last year, and would love to visit their store. However, I think that your description of the goodies a Sweet Pea bakery puts it at the top of my list!

  20. I also follow your page on Facebook. :)

  21. I haven’t been to Portland, but it’s on my cities-to-visit list. The Japanese Garden is definitely at the top of my to-see list!

  22. I followed you on Twitter!

  23. I favourited you on Facebook!

  24. A tie for fave parts of Portland between 1) the Hootens and 2)vegan sausage maple waffle (breakfast sandwich) from a Flavourspot food cart; Chad and Emiko weren’t too bad either ;)

  25. I’ve always wanted to go to Portland to see Powell’s.

  28. What’s not to love about Portland? It was great to have so many vegan food options, and I don’t know anywhere that has a vegan mini-mall! Everyone was so nice too. It’s a very encouraging place for a vegan!

  30. I like you on FB.

  31. I haven’t been to Portland, but it sounds like a lovely place to visit. It looks like a very green city.

  32. I lived in Portland for 2 years while my husband got his Masters Degree. I have since moved back home to Indiana but I have a special place in my heart for Portland. There is always something fun to do and the people there are just down to earth. It is because of Portland that I became vegan! I love how veg friendly it is especially compared with Indiana!

  33. I liked you on facebook!

  34. Voodoo Donuts is on the top of my list when I finally make it to Portland. The food trucks look awesome too!

  38. I have never been to Portland, but ever since going vegan and vegetarian before that, and of course seeing so much of it featured on the Cooking Channel’s veggie special, it has been my dream food trip. I can’t imagine being somewhere that I could eat compassionately just about anywhere. Even my omni hubby (who gets really frustrated with the lack of options I have on a regular menu) thinks it would be great for me to visit a place that has my values and tummy in mind. The Vegan Mecca if you will. I just can’t wait to visit, and thank you for this chance to win a piece of that vegan dream.

  39. I send you a friend request on fb! Hope you don’t mind!! Portland is the city of my momther,i’ve been there lots of times…

  40. I would LOVE to visit Portland to taste all of the Vegan restaurants!!

  41. I follow you on both Twitter and Facebook. I like the Pear brandy in a bottle they make up there, or used to anyway. I gave up alcohol! But I found Cest La Vegan, which is better in a way.

  42. I’ve never been to Portland but I think I’m most excited about visiting the food carts.
